Mint tea is the traditional drink of Maghreb countries. It is of Moroccan origin and this tea is obtained through the infusion of green tea leaves (gunpowder type) and spearmint (nanah type), accompanied by a lot of sugar. Distributed throughout the Maghreb, it is served very hot. It is not only drunk during meals, but throughout the day. It is, more particularly, the drink of hospitality. Unlike cooking, which is done by women, tea is traditionally a man's affair: prepared by the head of the family, it is served to the guest, and cannot be refused.
